CD album "Pure Desmond Plays James Bond Songs"

“I think I had it in the back of my mind that I wanted to sound like a dry
martini“ - this is the famous quote by Paul Desmond, the saxophonist of the Dave
Brubeck Quartet, known for Jazz hits like „Take Five“ and many more. He inspired
us to take this musical style, process and develop it, add something new to it
and adapt it to the 21st century. And he lead us directly to „shaken, not
stirred“ by James Bond, whose glamouros adventures match perfectly well with the
cool, sophisticated sound of the music that we have been playing for almost 20
years now.
The atmosphere of the legendary movie series made us look for original 007 film
locations such as a classy restaurant on a mountaintop in the alps, a hidden,
dark vault in the middle of nowhere or the deserted cargo space of a military
aircraft. In these sceneries we recorded the music of this album live and filmed
the recording sessions to publish videos of them on the European TV station ARTE
and on YouTube.

back to the first Bond song ever, the iconic “James Bond Theme“ by Monty Norman
and John Barry, there is a long tradition of the art of this special
songwriting. We enchanted some of our favorite musical monuments of different
decades in our personal way to shine in this glittering, brilliant Cool Jazz
quality that we love. “Tomorrow Never Dies“ is transformed into a jazz ballad,
“From Russia With Love“ becomes an airy samba with subtle humour, as Desmond
himself may have interpreted it. Dealing with these variant James Bond movies
and songs has been a fantastic journey through the world of secret agents,
vicious villains, rapid chases and romantic flirts.
